About SJM Firt Grade College.
Tarikere is a taluk in Chickamagaluru district in the state of Karnataka. The town has derived its name from a number of water tanks by which the town is surrounded (large water tank). This region is known for its natural, religious and cultural aspects. An 800 year old Amrutheshwara temple, a marvel of sculpture, is just 6k.m. away from Tarikere town. Moreover the Kemmannugundi, the hill station situated at a height of 3000 ft. at sea level, with its enchanting natural beauty beckons the tourists from all over Karnataka. There is a pilgrim center called Dattapeetha, the Dattathreya Maharshi believed to have made Thapas in that place. Tarikere is also well connected by train and bus route from the entire state. The region has been famous for areca nut cultivation. Bhadra Dam, situated in this area, constructed across Bhadra River is a lifeline for the farmers of this area.
S.J.M. College which was established in 1980 by S.J.M. Vidyapeetha, Chitradurga fulfills the higher educational aspirations of the people of this area since its inception. The college has got affiliated to Kuvempu University with permanent affiliation and falls under the 2(f) and 12(B) category of UGC act 1956. The institution was accredited with ‘B’ grade in 2007 and now is volunteering for the second cycle, re-accreditation submitting its RAR – 2015 which is a landmark and we faithfully confirm to the NAAC guidelines. Firstly the college since its conception has been committed to the quality of education and caters to the needs and serves the interests of the people of this area. On the other hand the college realizes that skill and knowledgeable persons are required to build a strong nation. Therefore the college strives towards achieving this and makes efforts to create such a human resource by massively involving the faculty with a number of student enrichment programmes. The college has also made its sincere attempts to create an environment with ICT for an effective teaching, learning to equip students with knowledge and skills. Finally the college also prides itself for having created a cordial and mutual supportive relationship with all the stakeholders.
The college is located in heart of the town with 6.5 acres of land and easily accessible to all. The necessary infrastructure has been created with active support of the management to meet all the requirements of the students. There has been a blend of experienced and young faculty members who are bent upon elevating the students to higher level of performance through innumerable students-centric enrichment programmes besides completing the prescribed syllabus of the university. The faculty members also have taken initiative in organising a number of National and State Level Seminars and Conferences by inviting eminent persons from different parts of the country. Many great and eminent persons of national stature have visited our college and interacted with students and faculty during these programmes. The college feels proud of itself for their visit and their presence and guidance to our students and staff.
On the other hand the alumni are also very active and respond and participate in the development of the institution. The institution, with an experienced and dedicated staff, strives to fulfil the expectations of all the stakeholders for an excellent performance for the National development.
